Our Rabbi

Stephen Listfield became Rabbi of Tree of Life Congregation of Life in August, 2006.

Rabbi Listfield has led congregations in Florida, Washington, DC, New Jersey, and most recently in Montgomery, AL before moving to Pittsburgh. He has specialized in outreach to young families and to single people. In Washington, he created the largest synagogue-based singles program in the country. He was responsible for over 100 marriages, and for bringing many hundreds of Jewish singles into synagogue life.

Our rabbi taught at American University while leading his congregation in DC. He taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York while leading his congregation in NJ. And while in Alabama he was the Jewish chaplain at the federal prison in Montgomery.

Rabbi Listfield is a magna cum laude, phi beta kappa graduate of Rutgers University. He also studied at Princeton University. He entered Yale University Graduate School with a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship (for the study of Chinese language and literature). He left that program to enroll in rabbinical studies, at JTS, in the aftermath of the Six-Day War.

He is married to the former Leslie Parker.
